WELCOME TO 2012!

New Beginnings. That is what I always think of when I think of the a new year beginning. A chance to start fresh, a whole new year of possibilities and new adventures to be lived in the coming year. New Beginnings- that is what our life in Christ also offers us. The Bible says that the old has gone and the new has begun. He is making us into something new, something better. Sometimes, that is not always easy- it is hard to let go sometimes, even scary- but God offers us something so much better. He wants to transform you into someone beautiful, someone who reflects His image and love. So embrace the newness, embrace the transforming work of Christ in your life this year. Let's be made new in 2012!

Here are some information about upcoming January events:

FRIDAY, JANUARY 6, 2012 Youth Group at the church. 7-9:30 pm. Start the year off right with games and fun.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 13, 2012 Youth Group at the church. 7-9:30 pm. We will let you know the specifics of this night as we know them! (suggestions welcomed!) :)

FRIDAY, JANUARY 20 U of A BEARS HOCKEY! Meet at the church at 6:15 pm. We will be going to the University of Alberta to watch some hockey. Cost: $5. You need to let us know if you are coming so that we can make sure we have a ticket and space in a vehicle for you. Also, we are looking for STUP coupons for 2 for 1 admission to U of A Bears Hockey, for our drivers. So if you have a STUP book, please bring along that coupon.

DECEMBER HAPPENINGS!

We have many fun, fabulous and festive festivities planned for December! It is such a great time of year where we have so many opportunities to celebrate the gift of our Saviour.

Friday, December 2, 2011 THE GREAT GIFT EVENT 7-9:30 pm meet at the church
Last year we did a white elephant gift exchange and this year we will give with a difference. Bring $5 or whatever donation you are able to and whatever the youth group raises we will match. Then we will head to Toys R Us and go toy shopping! How fun is that? The toys that you buy will be donated to Santa's Anonymous for needy children. (remember to get your permission forms in to us for this trip).
Saturday, December 10, 2011 CHRISTMAS BANQUET 5:00 pm -8:00 pm at the church
Come out for some fantastic food and great laughs. We will be joining the church for this feast. It will be an entertaining night with some hilarious drama (not quite panic squad, but I am sure that the actors will have panic!) You need a ticket to come. Let us know by Sunday December 4 if you are coming!

Saturday, December 17, 2011 CHRISTMAS FARM PARTY! 1:00 pm to about 8:00 pm
Yep! you heard right. We are heading out to a farm for some good old fashioned fun like hay rides and skating on a pond. You can even have a close encounter with a cow! :) MOOOO!

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7: Happy Thanksgiving! There is no youth this Friday due to the long weekend.
(If there is enough interest for a Thursday Oct. 6 gathering, then we can plan for that.)

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14: Minute to Win It. 7-9:30 pm at the church

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15: Deadline for the early bird registration for Ignite.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21: Games, grub, and good news! 7-9:30 pm at the church

OCTOBER 28-30: IGNITE YOUTH CONFERENCE! This is an amazing weekend that you don't want to miss!

We will have another night of some great games planned. More information will be sent to you via facebook.


Friday, September 30 Bake Night
Bring some cookie dough and your chef’s hat! We are baking up a storm for Sunday’s bake sale to raise money for our World Vision Sponsor child and our youth trip to the Ignite Conference.

Wednesday, August 27 7:00-9:30 at the church. Unless the sun decides to shine, we will be having a movie night, complete with popcorn of course!

Wednesday, August 3, 7:00-9:30 at the church. This will be our last youth group meeting for the summer until we start up again in September.

We are also looking for youth to help out with Kid’s Week during August 22-26 (in the evenings). Please let Heather know if you are able to help out.

July Events!

Youth "Soul Surfer" Movie Night

I hope that you are all hard at working studying for exams! ugg groan.... but you also need to take some time to get rid of stress so that you can focus more when you do study! Friday, June 17 6:00-10;00 pm BBQ
We will meet at our house for a BBQ. Come hungry!. Plan to be outside for some great games and a campfire.

Sunday, June 26 CHURCH PICNIC
Another opportunity for some more good food! We will head out to Cardiff Park after church for some food, a game of ball, and some fantastic fun. Bring your super-soakers!

MAY EVENTS

It looks like spring is finally here! It is a time of new beginnings: flowers, grass, trees grow again. The dead, brown ground turns green with life. God wants to do that is our lives as well.
"If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come." (2 Cor. 5:17) What new thing is God doing in your life these days?

Friday, May 6. MOVIE NIGHT Come out for some munchies, a good movie, and interesting discussion about it. 7:00-9:30 pm at the church.

Friday, May 16 AMAZING RACE/SERVICE EVENT This will be an action packed evening as we do the "Amazing Race". Come prepared to be outside and wear comfortable shoes! If you have a video camera or a video component on your camera or phone, bring it to the event. Meet at the church at 7:00pm. Pick up time, 9:30 pm.

Friday, May 20 There will be no youth this week due to the long weekend.

Saturday, May 28 GARAGE SALE! Some of the youth will be at YC this weekend, and others will be hanging out at the community garage sale at the church on Saturday. More details will be coming about this event.

AMAZING APRIL!

AMAZING APRIL

April is one of those rare months where we have five Fridays! That means five youth nights in April! (Well, I guess one of those Fridays is Good Friday, so we will have youth on Thursday that week- but still we have five youth events in April). That is not the only reason that April is so amazing. It is also amazing because we celebrate Easter which remembers God's very radical act of love for us! Through Jesus, God shows us incredible, amazing love! Now that is something to bring us joy (even when there still is snow on the ground in April.)

Thursday, April 21 Dessert, Missionaries, Movies, and Sleep over...

Due to Easter we will be meeting on Thursday this week. We will be joining the rest of the church for a dessert night (yum, dessert...) and hear from some real live missionaries. Then we will go and have our own youth adventures and watch a movie. To fit all this excitement into one evening we will be sleeping over at the church. The next morning we will have breakfast together and then join in with the Good Friday service before heading home to get some sleep.

Friday, April 29 Galaxyland Event. We are going to ride the thrills at Galaxyland! Cost: $10.00. See Kevin or Heather to buy your ticket.

March Madness!

Kevin loves March because it is the time of March Madness which is when the USA college basketball teams have their playoffs. However, we love March for other reasons, such as some great upcoming youth events.

Wednesday March 2, 2011 7:00-9:30 pm.
Skating (weather permitting). We hope to go skating and sliding around on the ice at YMCA. Brings skates, boots, and warm clothes. If it is too cold we will have some other great (and warm) games to play inside! Find out what this picture on the right has to do with us!

SUMO NIGHT
This is the HUGE event we have all been waiting for! Students from Mount Carmel are coming to do this GINORMOUS event for us. Some other youth groups will also be joining us, so it will be BIG in many ways. This is a great event to invite your friends to come.



Friday, March17, 7:00-9:30 pm IRISH NIGHT
We will get up to some crazy Irish shenanigans tonight. Don't forget to wear GREEN!


Friday, March 25, 7:00-9:00
This event is still a secret (or in other words, we haven't planned it yet, but rest assured it will be a great finish to our March Madness).

Hockey!

This is just a reminder that we are going to University of Alberta Hockey game on Friday. The cost is only $5! But you need to tell me by TOMORROW (Wednesday, Jan 19) if you are coming so we can arrange rides! It will be fantastic! Maybe we can do the wave and bang on the glass when there is a good check! Or maybe we can just play it cool and eat popcorn and pics during the game. However you like to enjoy your hockey, you'll want to be there! :)

Friday, Jan 21 U of A Bears Hockey Game! We are going to cheer on the University hockey team. Cost is $5.00 (which is a great price!). This is great event to bring your friends to (they just need to fill out the field trip form). We will meet at the church at 6:30 pm. Pick up time is 10:30 pm.
